Friday Favourites 28-6-13

Believe it or not, we’ve reached the end of another month and it’s time to grab a cuppa, put your feet up and read my awesome list of Friday Favourites for June.  I have to admit that this is one of my favourite times of the month – an opportunity to not only give credit to some wonderful writing but also link you up with some new blogs.  So without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to….

….Helen Cottee, who is a personal friend of mine and just so happens to write a blog. In fact she writes two blogs! The post I’m going to share with you today is from her own personal ‘musings’, the ones that go on inside her head and every now and again, tumble out in a very eloquent fashion. ‘A New Normal’ is the post where Helen discovers life didn’t exactly turn out the way she had planned….does it ever?!

Unless you are a new reader, you will of course know that last week I attended Britmums Live….sorry, I know I said I wouldn’t mention it again but please bear with me!  Before going to an event like this, all bloggers are very ‘hyped up’ – excited to finally get to meet the face behind the blog.  There’s also a small matter of the BiB Awards, the competition that we have been a part of for so many months. With any kind of competition, comes the inevitable comparison (yes sadly, even in the land of blogging).  Last week, my friend Siobhan, who writes ‘Everyone Else is Normal’ wrote a fantastic piece called ‘The Good Enough Blog’…..she makes some well thought-out points and in her own words, encourages us all to be bold and confident in our ‘voice’ – great advice!

Three Years, One Stone, Then Home is a blog that I return to time and time again.  I love the diversity of Rachel’s posts as one day she writes about the struggles of parenting two little boys and then up pops a fashion (or lack of) post! The one I’m going to include today doesn’t need a huge introduction; suffice to say that as a mum who once had toddlers, ‘A Walk of Extreme Patience‘ brought it all flooding back.  If you still have them, you will most definitely relate and quite possibly have a little chuckle!
You may well have heard me talk about the wonderful ‘Ageing Matron’ (as she affectionately calls herself) before.  Anna wears many hats: a journalist; a blogger; a vicar’s wife; and  mum to a son and daughter – the latter of whom sounds remarkably like one of my hormone-induced offspring!  I could pick so many of her posts as a ‘favourite’ but the one I will share this month is ‘To Catch a  Thief’….it’s brilliantly written and witty too – you won’t regret it!

Next up is a very special blog and totally different to all the others, which is why I adore it.  Helen from ‘All at Sea’ mainly writes poetry; her words are so beautifully crafted and if completely honest, I’m a teensy bit jealous of her natural talent!  If you love bluebells, you simply must read this – Goodbye Bluebell

I normally include just 5 of my favourite blogs but this month I’m going to give you an added ‘extra’ (don’t say I never give you anything!).  If you’re a mum, falling into the 40 (ish) bracket and beginning to question what you should be wearing right now, take a look at ‘Does My Bum Look 40 in This?’ – Kat is beautiful, has impeccable style and knows exactly where to find the latest trends and at affordable prices too!  Go check her out.

Until the next time my friends…..

  2. Thank you so much for including my post. I love that you call my blog diverse – I think others would say ‘lacks focus and a clear direction’. Also, Kat’s blog, Does my bum look 40 in this, is a huge favourite of my. She’s stunning and I love to look at clothes that my 5 foot 4, slightly plumpish frame could never look good in.
