Friday Favourites – October 2013

I’ve been thinking about this post all week – my chance to give some kudos to five fab bloggers who I think deserve your attention.  As always, the following posts are ones which I enjoyed reading during the month of October, and hope that you will too.  Quite a few this month are fairly new bloggers so hopefully ones you have not come across before.
So without further ado, go grab a cuppa and take five minutes out to explore this month’s Friday Favourites…
First up is a brand new blogger – Kate, who blogs over at Life’s Little Luxuries.  I have a very loose connection with Kate in real life and her blog and subsequent presence on Twitter, is now giving me a great opportunity to get to know her better.  She has older children than mine, a rare occurrence in the blogging world; I’m planning to gain all the advice I can from Kate!  Go check out the first of her posts that I came across – Going Back to Bed After the School Run.
Margot Tries the Good Life is a blog which I first encountered about 6 months ago.  Through her brilliant tongue-in-cheek style, we get a wonderful view of Margot’s new ‘life in the country’ with Jerry (who else?) Primrose and Poppy.  Quite naturally, this month’s post featured the village harvest lunch, complete with checked tablecloths, home-made shepherd’s pie and Margot’s very own, rather sub-standard, floral display! You won’t be disappointed, I promise.
Last week I heard some wonderful news from Jen over at Instinctive Mum, whose first book is about to be published!  I have seen Jen’s work unfold over the past few months, starting with a poem she wrote for her children, aiming to help them understand her journey with Post Natal Depression.  She has subsequently turned this beautiful poem into a children’s book, which explains, in very child-like terms, that mummy will be coming back. A Monster Ate My Mum also has its own blog!  Now’s your chance to discover the poem for yourself and find out a bit more behind Jen’s journey with PND and her motivation to write this book.
Another new blogger is Make Me an Earth Mother.  Before you jump to conclusions and assume she’s all about wearing goat-haired leggings and playing with cotton reels…..go and have a read of her blog.  Her posts generally centre around trying to become the mother she thinks she should be and on the whole, amusing herself (and us) with her tales.  Take a peek at ‘Is it just me who gets in a knot with baby-wearing?‘ and show a newbie some love :)
I’ve recently (well since starting my blog 18 months ago)  become a Twitter convert.  One thing I’ve learnt is that in the world of social media, you cannot have two loves.  Sorry Facebook but my love affair with you really is on the decline.  When I read this post by Carrie over at ‘Time to be an Adult‘, I could 100% relate and found it very amusing. And before you point out that this was written in September, I know but I’d already written that month’s Friday Favourites by then!

So there you have it, my suggestions for October.  If you read a post and enjoy it, why not leave a comment below, or better still, on their blog?  Happy weekend one and all :)

The 'Selfie' is so last year!
Maybe our parents were right all along....

  1. Brilliant Suzanne, am off over to have a read of all the above mentioned blogs xx

  2. Thank you so much for the mention Suzanne, just knowing someone other than the boyfriend is reading my posts is enough but to be highlighted as a favourite is amazing – I’m off to celebrate with a non-diet doughnut!! xx

    • Yay go you! It takes a while to build up readership but keep going, you’re on the right tracks :)

  3. Suzanne, thank you!!! I am blushing! xxx

  4. Some lovely reads there Suzanne – this is such a nice thing to do to highlight some favourites xx

  5. I love these round-ups! Great to see some of my favourites in there, as well as a couple of new ones.
