I started this blog shortly after turning the big 4-0. Leading up to this momentous occasion, I began thinking about the next chapter of my life and what I would like to achieve for ME….not for my children or for my family or for anyone else, but for ME. Having dedicated the previous 12 years of life to my children, I decided it was time to start something new.
So at the end of 2011 I enrolled on a Freelance Journalism course. Writing has been something I have always enjoyed as a hobby. From a very young age I would write diaries, keep notebooks and write lists – endless lists! The course sealed my decision to pursue it as more than just a hobby and I learnt so much in that 6 months! I am now the proud owner of a Diploma in Freelance Journalism.
So what have I done with this auspicious title of Freelance Journalist? My first article was accepted shortly after completing the course and featured in the parenting magazine – Juno. I have also had an article featured on ivillage and you will regularly find my blog posts on the front page of Mumsnet’s Blogger Network. I was pleased to be invited to write a letter to my daughter on BBC’s online magazine last year and my work has also featured over on the Parentdish site.
I am keen to make my mark in the world of freelance journalism so please feel free to contact me on firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to see more of my work.
PR and Reviews
As a family, we are very interested in reviewing products that appeal both to us and our readers. So far we have reviewed theme parks, household products, days out, clothing and so much more. Take a look here for an example of our honest reviews. I do however limit the number of reviews appearing on the blog and I only ever review something that I think readers would be interested in or if I can offer them an equivalent as a competition prize.
For PR purposes, 3 Children and It has a DA of 33 and a PA of 42.
On occasion I do earn money from this blog in the form of sponsored posts but these will always be declared as such, using the term ‘sponsored post’ or ‘in collaboration with’.
As at December 2015, 3 Children and It has close to 7000 followers on Twitter, 1400+ fans on Facebook and a healthy number of committed readers who come back time and again.
For the last 3 years we have been finalists in the Family category of the Brilliance in Blogging Awards run by Britmums. And in 2014 and 2015, we were finalists in the School Days category of the MAD Blog Awards.
